In a modern apartment or office, there is a large number of electrical consumers; on the one hand, there are usually far more devices than sockets, and on the other hand, many of them either require mobility or are located so far from the socket that they cannot reach it. These issues can be easily solved with the help of power strips and surge protectors.
A surge protector differs from a power strip in that it provides protection to electrical devices connected to it from impulse noise interference. For instance, it can protect against "ripple" on the TV screen or noise in the speakers when operating, for example, a mixer in the kitchen. It can even prevent equipment failure if a device causing strong interference, such as a drill, is connected to the network. Additionally, almost all surge protectors are equipped with a circuit breaker for short-circuit protection.
As a rule, a surge protector has multiple sockets and a cable of varying lengths, which allows it to function as both an extension cord and a "triple socket adapter." If you are sure you do not need protection for your equipment, then a simple power strip will suffice. You can purchase it at a lower price since it is a simpler design. Aesthetically, a power strip may look very similar to a surge protector, so when choosing, you should pay attention to the type of device and its manufacturer.
