The fruits of the olive tree, which have a dark color, are commonly referred to as "маслины" in Russian. An interesting fact is that black olives are named "маслины" only in Russia, while the rest of the world distinguishes between dark and green olives. In reality, the color of "маслины" is not limited to black; there are berries that are dark cherry, reddish-brown, dark purple, and chocolate in color. "Маслины" that ripen on the branch rarely have a glossy black color and a smooth surface; they are slightly wrinkled, and their coloring is uneven. The flesh of "маслины" is dense and oily, and their taste and smell are specific, not everyone "accepts" them immediately. Sometimes, there is a smoky flavor present in the taste.
