We created the new MacBook not only thinner and lighter but also more functional and intuitive. This is one of those challenges that cannot be solved by simply reducing size and weight. So we started from the very basics and redesigned all key elements, thus creating a unified design that feels incredibly simple. This laptop embodies all the best qualities of a Mac. One port
serves all.
To make the new MacBook so thin and light, we rethought the way it connects to peripherals and power sources. As a result, we managed to create a new connectivity standard that combines all the main functions needed for everyday work into a single port. The unique USB-C port allows you to charge the laptop, transfer data at USB 3 speeds when connecting external and peripheral devices, and provide output with support for HDMI, VGA, and DisplayPort. All these capabilities — in one small symmetrical port that takes up one-third of a current USB port.

The most energy-efficient laptop in the world.
All the technologies in the new MacBook — from the Retina display to the stepped batteries and the advanced capabilities of OS X — are optimized to consume as little energy as possible (with a standard consumption of about 10.1 kWh per year). The MacBook also fully meets the strict minimum power consumption requirements set by the Environmental Protection Agency and has been awarded the ENERGY STAR 6.1 certification. And since the new MacBook's battery can be charged less frequently, it leaves a smaller carbon footprint in everyday use.

Designed with environmental care.
In creating the new MacBook, we abandoned the use of several harmful substances, such as beryllium, brominated flame retardants, and PVC. The laptop is made from recyclable materials such as aluminum and glass. It has also received the Gold certification from the EPEAT program, which assesses a product's environmental impact based on factors such as recyclability, energy consumption, design, and manufacturing methods.
