We created the new MacBook to be not only thinner and lighter but also more functional and intuitive. It’s one of those tasks that cannot be solved by simply reducing size and weight. Therefore, we started with the basics and redesigned all the key elements, thus creating an integrated design that feels incredibly simple. This laptop embodies all the best qualities of a Mac in its purest form.

To make the new MacBook so thin and light, we reimagined the connection to peripheral devices and the power source. As a result, we managed to create a new connection standard that combines all the essential functions needed for everyday work into one connector. The unique USB-C port allows you to charge your laptop, transfer data at USB 3 speeds when connecting external and peripheral devices, and provide data output with support for HDMI, VGA, and DisplayPort. All these capabilities are in one small symmetrical port that takes up one third of the current USB port.

All the technologies of the new MacBook — from the Retina display to layered batteries and the advanced features of OS X — are optimized to ensure the laptop consumes as little power as possible (with standard consumption around 10.1 kW per year). The MacBook also fully complies with strict energy consumption requirements set by the Environmental Protection Agency and has been awarded the ENERGY STAR 6.1 certification. And since the new MacBook's battery can be recharged less frequently, it leaves a smaller carbon footprint during everyday use.

In creating the new MacBook, we avoided the use of several harmful substances: beryllium, flame retardant additives, and PVC. The laptop is made from recyclable materials, such as aluminum and glass. It has also received the Gold certification from the EPEAT program, which assesses the product's environmental impact based on criteria such as recyclability, energy consumption, design, and production methods.
