What is an overlock? An overlock (serger) is a device designed for trimming and finishing the edges of a sewing product. This is the main function of a serger. At the same time, the edge of the material is secured with a specially selected thread pattern. The resulting overlock stitch prevents the fabric from unraveling at the edges.
During one operation, a serger can simultaneously perform several tasks: trim excess fabric, finish edges, and sew parts together. If a homemade item is finished with a serger, it gains a professional appearance. With an overlock, you can process all types of fabrics, including those that are prone to fraying. A serger for knitwear is simply indispensable. It gives seams elasticity and prevents tearing under stress.
Modern sergers are equipped with a differential feed, which ensures stretching or gathering of the fabric. The ability to adjust the stitch length and cutting width allows you to select the necessary settings for the fabric being processed. For working with knitted fabrics, disabling the knife allows for sewing without cutting. If a serger has a chain stitch looper, this machine can perform a cover stitch.
